Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi - Verbania
Pallanza, one of the most beautiful and famous tourist destinations on Lake Maggiore, can amaze not only with its splendid view of the lake and the Borromeo Gulf but also thanks to the charm of its elaborate lakefront adorned with historical buildings, churches, monuments, and gardens.
On the lakefront, several privileged points offer the opportunity to capture souvenir photos that resemble postcards. Starting from the panoramic terrace at the beginning of Corso Tonolli, heading towards the town center, to the shore right in front of Piazza Garibaldi, next to the Pier, where the old port of Pallanza is located with the statue of San Dazio, particularly well-executed.
Strolling through the streets of the historic center, of Roman origin, you can traverse alleys and streets always bustling with restaurants to taste delicious local dishes, shops for shopping, and squares surrounded by period buildings adorned with portals, arcades, archivolts, and capitals.
In addition to the central square, which is a short walk from the lake, there are several characteristic buildings, including the Church of San Leonardo, the City Palace, whose porch is formed by 32 pillars of pink granite from Baveno, and Villa Giulia. The latter, a famous 19th-century villa, was commissioned and built by Bernardino Branca, a pharmacist and inventor of the famous Fernet liqueur, and now hosts exhibitions and shows.
Among the palaces that decorate the city, a visit to Palazzo Viani-Dugnani is recommended, which since 1990 houses the Museum of the Landscape, and Palazzo Biumi-Innocenti, now the seat of the section on popular religiosity of the Museum of the Landscape.
Moving away a bit from the historic center, heading towards Viale Azari in the upper part of the town, you reach the Church of Madonna di Campagna, in Renaissance style, built on a pre-existing Romanesque building, Sancta Maria de Egro.
